When we moved into our compound apartment in Murjan Village in Saudi Arabia, a pick-up truck was enough to transport our belongings that we needed here. We didn’t take much with us. And when we returned two years later, we only traveled with our suitcases.
We, my family and I, were world travelers. At the beginning with the three of us, then with four and finally after the “Empty Nest” with two.
Our moves went from Tübingen via Darmstadt to Boston in the U.S. Back to Frankfurt with a flying visit to Oberhausen and then to Amsterdam. From there to the Arab world with commutes between Manama in Bahrain and Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia. In the meantime, we are back in Frankfurt.
Decluttering and tidying up, letting go of things we don’t need, has accompanied us all our lives. It became a routine and gives a good feeling. It’s like hiking on the Way of St. James. You are grateful for every gram that does not have to be packed in your backpack.
Travel light, move minimalistically
✳️ The conscious renunciation of superfluous things creates clarity in the mind and in everyday life. In business, this means concentrating on the essentials.
✳️ Every gram that is not dragged along saves energy and time. In business: Optimized logistics, lean warehousing and just-in-time strategies reduce capital commitment.
✳️ Those who regularly sort out strengthen their ability to let go and renew themselves. In the company, a continuous process and portfolio review keeps projects healthy and avoids ballast.
Being on the road light sharpens the focus on the essentials. Those who regularly shed ballast remain flexible and resilient, both privately and professionally. And this is especially true in today’s times of rapid change.
➡️ What methods do you use to get rid of superfluous things?
