Leadership Across Borders
How does leadership succeed across cultures, time zones, and language boundaries? That’s the central question of my new book: Prepare for Landing: Guiding Principles for Intercultural Leadership. How to Successfully Lead Globally Distributed Teams, to be published, so far in German, on 16 February 2026 by Budrich Inspirited. The book’s aim is to support leaders and team members in navigating global collaboration with confidence. It introduces four key guiding principles:
1) Language as a Key: How teams with different native languages can use language not as a barrier, but as a shared resource.
2) Understanding Culture: How Cultural Maps help avoid stereotypes.
3) Small Talk & Storytelling as Bridge Builders: How everyday conversations and shared stories foster trust and reduce cultural distance.
4) Creating Meaningful Connections, the first three guidelines prepare the ground for the fourth: building stable, learning-oriented relationships in intercultural contexts, where differences become a strength rather than an obstacle.
At its core, the book encourages us to see cultural diversity not as a challenge, but as an asset and to create genuine connections within globally composed teams.

In this English podcast conversation with Annegret Bertsch, CPC, we talk about the guiding principles for intercultural leadership and why they matter in global teams.
Leadership today means navigating cultures, expectations, and perspectives. In the episode mentioned below we unpack those principles that shape meaningful collaboration across borders.
And „Prepare for Landing“ is my guiding theme.
