And the Winner is …
The StudyCheck Award is the independent university ranking of Germany’s largest university evaluation portal. The two factors star rating and recommendation rate form the basis for calculating the score.
It’s all about customer satisfaction. And the customers are the students. This year’s winner was the Albstadt Sigmaringen University. Quite a surprise.
I have been working at this university as a lecturer for three semesters and immediately feel like a winner. As soon as I’m here, we win.
More seriously. As a largely outsider in the system, what did I notice so positive?
✳️ The appreciation that I am shown by the leading professors of the faculty as a lecturer from the business world. There is a great interest in knowing that pragmatic and current economic topics are competently represented. My subject is “Business Ethics and Sustainability”.
✳️ The students’ interest in recognizing the knowledge from theory in practice and deriving from it what they expect in their professional future, and perhaps even more importantly, what they can shape. My lecture is also about “New Work” and, above all, about what is behind this term.
✳️ The opportunity to win over industrial companies from the surrounding area to participate in the design of the lecture and at the same time to gain insights not only into which topics, but also how the students deal with them. In my lecture, we will have dialogue discussions on the topic of “sustainability management”. We have already had the corporations of Groz-Beckert and of Bizerba as guests.
✳️ Digital competence and good IT support give me the flexibility to design the lecture as a hybrid, i.e. either on-site or virtually via MS Teams. This is modern and a model for the future.
The need for academic excellence in our German higher education landscape is undisputed. To do this, we also need a pragmatic approach to application and modern digital teaching. This is probably reflected in the vote of the students.
I am very happy about the award for this, “my” university. It is deserved.
➡️ How do you see the higher education landscape in Germany positioned?
